Episode 89 – High-Five Forever

Week in Geek: Andrew burns through Daredevil season 2 and lives to tell the tale, while Dan reads the Lovecraftian novella, The Ballad of Black Tom, by Victor LaValle.

BvS:DoJ: Since neither Dan nor Andrew have seen the newest superhero effort by Warner Bros. and DC Comics, the talk around the imminent release of the movie has been heated and divisive. Episode 88 – Idealistic Ventures Based on Bad Premises

Week in Geek: Andrew plays the demo for Square-Enix’s Bravely Second while Dan watches old movies that started franchises and, arguably, genres––X-Men and Rocky.

Origin Stories: Since the most recent trailer for Captain America: Civil War debuted Spider-Man’s entry into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, many people are wondering if we’re going to be getting another Spider-Man origin story. Are we sick of origin stories? Why are they necessary? Dan and Andrew weave through the grommets of this discussion.

Whispers of the Old Gods: The newest expansion for Blizzard’s Hearthstone expansion has been announced, called “Whispers of the Old Gods,” which has a heavy Lovecraftian tint to it, which is right in our wheelhouse.

Episode 85 – I Hardly Even Knew Me

Episode 85 – I Hardly Even Knew Me

We’re a little under the weather this week, but we do our best to provide with the most premium content we can offer.

Week in Geek: Andrew plays the indie prison-escape simulator, The Escapists, while Dan sees Deadpool and definitely has “feelings.”

Silenced Hills: At the recent DICE Summit, a keynote was held that reunited Metal Gear Solid‘s Hideo Kojima with Pan’s Labyrinth‘s Guillermo Del Toro to talk about how much they like each other. We talk about how much they like each other.

First Person Theater: A trailer for the film, Hardcore Henry, landed in theaters and on the internet, and Andrew and Dan are wondering both “What the hell?” and “Why the hell not?”

The Merc With a Mouth as a Gamble by a Studio: Marvel mutant Deadpool hits cinema this week and Dan and Andrew discuss the implications of this faithful arrival into the superhero movie discourse.

Whose [sic] Tim Cosing? Greater Than Games promotes their Kickstarter for the final expansion for the popular card game, Sentinels of the Multiverse, with a well-planned, quickly foiled, very intricate ARG focused around a fictional game tester “Tim Cosing.” Andrew and Dan unravel the sleuthing fans of the game did to figure out the mystery.

Episode 82 – Backwards Expansion

Episode 82 – Backwards Expansion

Week in Geek: Andrew plays Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: India while Dan watches Ex Machina.

Cheap Games: With Andrew’s sideways foray into the normally “AAA” Assassin’s Creed franchise being through the door of a $10 downloadable game, Dan and Andrew discuss the recent widening of prices for games––both video and tabletop––and the implications on not only the content but the culture it feeds.

Flash in the Pan/The Doctor is Out: In unrelated but nearly simultaneous announcements, CBS/CW and BBC announced they are pulling their respective content from the media hubs of Netflix and Hulu, presumably because they are going to launch their own premium streaming services. Will such a tactic work? Should it? Why now?

Episode 77 – That’s Not A Euphemism

SPOILER ALERT: Dan and Andrew go into detail about the plot of Star Wars: The Force Awakens in this episode. So, if you haven’t seen it, please refrain from listening. You have been notified.

The new year is brought in an…interesting…fashion. Base humor and extended conversations are but a small step into 2016!

Week in Geek: The boys play some catch up as Andrew plays Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag and Dan watches Cowboy Bebop.

The Force Awakens A Lot of Opinions: The movie that caught the world’s imagination is under the lens this week, though both Dan and Andrew come to Star Wars: The Force Awakens from very different places with very different attitudes. It is a movie that has been universally praised but severely dissected among the fandom. Andrew and Dan dissect the schism as well as offer bits of their own insights into this, overall, fun movie.

Episode 74 – Scotch Tape and Hope

Episode 74 – Scotch Tape and Hope

It’s a bit of a ramshackle affair this week as the boys (mostly Dan) were plagued by technical issues, but they wouldn’t let that stop them from bringing you a new episode!

Week in Geek: Andrew watches Ronin again and gets some spicy behind-the-scenes details while Dan plays dress-up in Batman: Arkham Knight.

Cards Against Black Friday: Dan and Andrew detail the questionable history the cynically dark Cards Against Humanity has with the equally cynical (but different) Black Friday shopping event.

Howard No More: With the announcement at the most recent World Fantasy Convention that they would no longer be distributing a bust of H.P. Lovecraft as an award due to the author’s public and well-known racist and elitist views, different portions of fandom exploded with either outrage or victory (both sides have legitimate angles). Andrew and Dan discuss why this may be a good thing or a bad thing (mostly good).

Episode 20 – Hydra Healthcare

Episode 20 – Hydra Healthcare

Hitting another arbitrary benchmark, Episode 20 is celebrated with another purported naked episode (no clothes were actually removed in the recording of this episode). To celebrate, they continue into October with another Halloween-themed episode throughout.

Week in Geek: Andrew finally gets around to watching latter-day X-Men movies (when they got good again). Dan bought a new Lovecraft book.

Alone in the Dork: Dan and Andrew discuss the scariest video games they’ve ever played.

Discussion: With a Kickstarter going touting to be the first “officially licensed” video game based on an H. P. Lovecraft story, Andrew and Dan wonder how that’s even possible considering H. P. Lovecraft’s works are well-known to be in the public domain.

Hail Hydra: In a bit of a detour, Dan and Andrew try to figure out what’s so bad about Marvel’s HYDRA organization.

Question of the Week:

What is your favorite expression (story/movie/video game/music/etc.) of cosmic horror?
